October 26: 40 days to deadline

The first video is up! The website itself still needs some work, but it's a start. Please email me with your feedback.

October 27: 39 days to deadline

This morning I took a trip to my favorite junkyard--Happy's Import Auto Salvage. I have often found parts there for my Prelude, but that had been some time. I hoped to get some under-the-hood pictures of other 2nd generation Preludes to use as reference in case I couldn't remember where some parts went. On the way I was wondering if Happy even had any more 83-87 'Ludes on his lot. When I got there my suspision was confirmed; he had none. I did however get the name and number of another junkyard that might still have some 2nd gen. Preludes.

The engine mounts arrived yesterday from AutopartsWarehouse.com.

Once those are dry I'll drop in the engine block. Some people would build the engine first then drop it in, but I'm going to build it as it sits in the engine bay. This way I won't need to mess with an engine hoist.

Sorry for the late post today. I've been scrambling to improve this website. Stay tuned. I might have a better looking website by the time I post my second video on Monday.

The parts are slowly making their way back on. The engine block will be dropped in soon. You should see it back in the car in Monday's video!

Thanks for your continued support!

Continuing to clean and paint engine mounting brackets and bolts. Using Dupli-Color Epoxy Paint that I bought from O'Reily Auto Parts. They carry the full line of Dupli-Color products. Their prices for parts are very competitive with those of online parts shops as well.

The paint takes a whole week to fully cure, but I can't wait that long. Instead, I'm just waiting the three hours it takes to be dry enough to handle. That seems to be working OK.

Engine block will be dropped in tomorrow!

November 2: 33 days to deadline

Well, the engine block has not been dropped yet :( There's not video because there really isn't that much to show. A few parts have been installed. Obviously, there are more to go. My biggest obstacle is figuring out how exactly the smaller parts fit in and around the engine bay. For example, I know where the steering fluid lines connect, but there is one line that just doesn't seem to fit. Another challenge is figuring out which bolts to use where. Some fit in some holes, but they have different markings on them to signify different torque specs.

To remedy this I called the local Honda dealer's service department. My car is so old they don't even have their service book for it any more. The guy I spoke to did direct me to visit alldata.com. There I subscribed for a year of service for their online manual. It's worth the investment because it gives some detailed diagrams and info on a lot of parts for my car, but it still didn't answer my bolt and steering fluid line questions. So I need to keep looking for a junkyard that has my model. Another option though, is to sell my truck and buy a 2nd gen. Prelude. That way I can have one on-site to reference.

Those are my thoughts. More to come.

November 3: 32 days to deadline

Started taping the second video today. (Still finding my rhythm for this weekly/daily blog.) Stay tuned. It'll be up tomorrow.
